ESPN Winter X Games

ESPN Winter X Games, January 17-20, Buttermilk.

The Winter X Games feature the talents of more than 350 of the world's best athletes competiting in:

Skiing: SkierX, Slopestyle, Superpipe, Ultracross
Snowboarding: BoarderX, Slopestyle, Superpipe, Ultracross
Snowmobile: SnowCross, HillCross
Moto X: Big Air

The events will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports beginning Feb 1, 2002.

All the X Games will be held at Buttermilk, home to a superpipe and the world's longest terrain park, the Crazy T'rain, nearly 2 miles long with dozens of hits and 30 rails.

All X Games competitions can be viewed from the base of Buttermilk for free. To ski or snowboard at Buttermilk during the X Games, a lift ticket must be purchased at regular season price. Lift tickets are good at all four Aspen/Snowmass mountains: Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Highlands and Snowmass.

There will be public parking at an off venue site (Cozy Point, located at the corner of Hwy 82 and Brush Creek Road) with shuttles to Buttermilk. There will be no public parking at Buttermilk. Spectators are encouraged to take the bus (RAFTA) if they live or are staying in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Colorado Freeride Series & Championships

2002 Colorado Freeride Series & Championships, Snowmass Feb 23, March 9, March 28-31.

The 2002 Colorado Freeride Series & Championships consist of 3 one-day entry level freeriding events plus a 2 day championship event. The events are open to the public, skiers and snowboarders, men & women, 18 years or older. The events will be held on Snowmass' famed Hanging Valley Headwall, a steep face littered with rocks, cliffs and hanging snowfields. Hanging Valley Headwall also will host Round 1 (qualifying round) of the Championships. Rounds 2 and 3 of the Championships will take place on the Lower Burn Cliffs and Alpine Cliffs. Apres parties at the Cirque Bar & Grill will feature free beer for competitors, awards, a bib raffle and video footage from competitions.

The Colorado Freeride Series & Championships are a spin off of the now defunct Bad Ass Freeriding Series and Championships held at Berthoud last season. The events moved to Snowmass due to the closure of lift service at Berthoud. Winners of the Colorado Freeride Championships receive free entry and accomodations in the US Extreme Skiing Championships at Crested Butte, April 3-7, 2002.

Cost:

All Series and Championships: Sign up for BOTH the series events and the Championships for $150. (Must sign up no later than Feb 23.)

$75 for all series events (including final series event on March 28, must be purchased by Feb. 23)

Series events: $30 per singe event ($35 day of event) (Applies to both single day events but does not include final Series event/Championship qualifier on March 28)

After Feb. 23, the only way to enter the final series event (March 28) will be to enter the Championships.

Top overall finishers (1st place in the Series (best 2 out of 3) will win free entry into the Championships.

Championships: $100 ($125 day of event)

Lift tickets are required. $25 competitor tickets will be available at registration on event days.

Pre-registration: Will be available online and at a tbd location in Aspen & Snowmass. Check back after Dec. 1, 2001.

Registration: Located in the Snowmass Mall Ticket Pavilion on event days (time tbd).

GS fun race open to the public followed by a Mount Gay Rum apres ski party.
This event consists of a race featuring bartenders from local bars and restaurants, as well as the public on Saturday. They will all compete for ski and snowboard prizes along with the best winning time of the series receiving a ski trip for two to Barbados.

There will be a party friday night and another Saturday after the race where the prizes will be given to the winners as well as a raffle for all attending the party.

Beginning April 5, 2002, Aspen will kick off its annual 180 Spring Jam, showcasing today’s cutting edge skiing and snowboarding culture. The festival features the pro KickAspen Big Air Invitational plus the Quarterpipe Showdown, Wild Dash for Cash, Wild Tubes, Ultracross and Slopestyle. Non stop parties, contests, prizes and an amateur filmmakers competition round out the festival.

Festival Demo Village – Competition registration, free industry demos, interactive product sampling tents, music and style are key elements of the festival village located April 5-14 at the base of Aspen Mountain.

Outdoor Concert Series and Aprés Parties – Each afternoon the aprés scene at base of Aspen Mountain rocks with the free Outdoor Concert Series, beer garden, contests and prize giveaways. Live bands perform daily on stage and a monster kicker at the base provides great spectator action. Last years bands included Hieroglyphics, Slightly Stoopid, Shinehead, Sucker, Rocker T& more. This years bands are sure to please.

Competitions – All competitions are open to the public, men & women, skiers and snowboarders except the KickAspen Big Air Invitational, a televised pro event.

After Parties – The party doesn’t stop with aprés-ski, each evening different local bars and nightclubs host after parties with live music, drink specials, outrageous contests and prize giveaways in spring break tradition.
