See the Continental Divide from Monarch
Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area operates 670 acres along the Continental Divide in the Sawatch Range within the Pike and San Isabel National Forest. Located four hours--210 miles--from Fort Collins, Monarch takes a bit of work for Front Rangers, but the pristine snow and views can be worth it.
Operating since 1939, it started with just one tow rope leading to the top of Gumbarrel, where a tiny warming shack served as the main lodge. Today, that lodge is now used as the race-team headquarters. You'll want to take Panorama to Sky-Walker to experience one of Colorado's most pristine views of the Continental Divide.
Vital statistics: The vertical rise is 1,170 feet with 670skiable acres, 5 lifts and 54 trails. They claim an average showfall of 350 inches. Special facilities include snowcat tours. Season is November 17 to April 8.
Contact phone number is 1-888-996-7669. For snow reports, call 1-800-228-7943.
